ISA 215 Dual Mono Mic-Pre and Equaliser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ISA 215, with its renowned Rupert Neve* designed circuitry, is the original
Focusrite processor, the classic design on which much of the Red Range is based.
With two mic pre-amps and two full equaliser sections, the ISA 215 is effectively
two input channels of the legendary Focusrite Studio Console, bringing one of
the most highly regarded input signal paths in professional audio within the
reach of any facility that requires no-compromise route from a mic or line source
through to a recording medium.
* Rupert Neve is not involved nor affiliated with Focusrite Audio Engineering Ltd.
As the first stage in the audio chain, the mic pre-amp is perhaps the most important.
The Luhndahl transformer used in the ISA 215 pre-amp is, quite simply, the best
money can buy.
The ISA 215 pre-amp circuitry offers extremely low noise and distortion, and delivers a smooth, detailed sound across its very wide bandwidth.
Mic gain is controlled by rotary switches, provided for accuracy and easy channel matching; a trim control allows fine tuning of input levels. The line inputs on each channel feature switched gain control.
Phantom power and phase reverse are available on both channels.
The equaliser section is designed to allow easy yet precise control, with large and clearly marked pots. The two overlapping fully parametric mid bands feature x3 range switches to shift the range of their frequency control, allowing easy control without 'cramping' of range.
Shelving high and low pass filters offer switched frequency controls, and a consistent EQ curve shape that doesn't change as frequency is switched.
High and low pass filters are also provided, offering 18dB/octave cut at switched frequency points, allowing effective control of unwanted high and low frequency artifacts without using up a full EQ band. Thanks to buffering between sections, all EQ bands operate independently and are not affected by any other bands. The result is a powerful corrective and creative device that can just as easily bring out the character of an instrument as tune out a troublesome frequency without unduly affecting other frequencies.
The construction of the ISA 215 employs separate circuit boards for each channel, to improve channel separation. They are housed in a nickel-plated steel case that provides a very high level of electromagnetic isolation. All switches are illuminated for clarity; all inputs and outputs are transformer balanced for optimum isolation and quality.
